The current study explores the influence of system automation on improving employee productivity in the food and beverages industry, particularly among Crown Beverages Limited and Unilever Uganda Limited in Northern Uganda. Specific research goals include establishing the degree of system automation implementation, determining the level of employee productivity, analyzing the influence of system automation on employee productivity and examining the role of electronic inventory management (EIM) as the moderator of the automation-productivity link. A descriptive cross-sectional research design was utilized, combining both qualitative and quantitative research techniques in form of surveys and interviews. Research data analysis entailed the use of descriptive statistics (frequencies, means and percentages) and inferential statistics such as correlation and regression analyses in order to explore research relationships. The study sample included 188 participants selected through Krejcie and Morgan (1970) table. System automation was found to be highly implemented and significantly contributes to improvements in employee productivity by increasing efficiency, responsiveness and decision-making skills of employees. There was also a high positive and statistically significant correlation between user acceptance and productivity indicating that increased acceptance by users of automation tools positively influences productivity. In addition, EIM proved to be the key moderator accounting for moderate variance in the influence of system automation on employee productivity, because of inventory tracking and forecasting systems used in the process. Usability and stockout problems were also indicated as areas of needed improvement. It is concluded that the revolutionary power of system automation integration through EIM allows optimizing business processes and enhancing employee productivity in industrial operations. Improvements could be made in relation to simplification of interface design, implementation of advanced EIM tools, participation of employees in system improvement and formulation of automation standards in the sector.
